I ASSUME IT’S ME

2017, FullHD video, color-sound, excerpt 2’28”

The archive is a collection of objects, each of which gets handled by many people in different times and places—collecting inside a new archive of memories. Memory in memory. This work tries to imagine what traces remain inside the Mondo Kim’s video archive, what it may have experienced during its physical and spiritual journey— from New York to Sicily, abandoning its land and physical contacts. It could be a nostalgia, or a chance to rediscover a true identity— after having spent a life changing voice, sex, and body. At the same time, the archive leaves traces to those who used it, related to an object that might have initially been indifferent, but which in a transformed context brings a multilayered array of information. Creating a network of memories.
